This project introduces a balance bike designed to support children as they navigate Lyon's cycling network through active mobility.
Service
We designed a balance bike distribution service for all children, provided as a public initiative by the City of Lyon. These bikes can be ordered online and collected as a flat-pack kit, optimizing storage and streamlining distribution. The object itself is engineered for low-cost production and follows an open-source logic.
System
To ensure the service remains accessible, reservations are made online: families select their local city hall and provide the child’s height to receive a tailored kit. Once collected, the kit can be assembled in minutes. As the child grows out of it, the bike is returned to the city hall to be refurbished and redistributed to another family, creating a sustainable, circular cycle.
